Janet Ronsky, Ph.D., P.Eng., FCAE
Janet Ronsky has been the Director of Zymetrix since its inception in 2009. She was a co-founder of both Zymetrix and Biovantage, a seed funder and incubator for medical technologies. Janet has an educational background in mechanical engineering and biomechancs; and she brings leadership, network connectivity and technical expertise to Zymetrix. In addition to her role with Zymetrix, Janet carries joint appointments in the Schulich School of Engineering and the Faculty of Kinesiology and Cumming School of Medicine, as well as memberships in the McCaig Institute for Bone & Joint Health and the Roger Jackson Centre for Health and Wellness Research at the University of Calgary.
Gerald Cole, PhD. P.Eng.
Gerald has a background in mechanical engineering and biomechanics. He spent much of his career working with marketing, R&D and testing teams for sports equipment companies, including Nike, Adidas, TaylorMade Golf and OwnThePodium Canada. Towards the end of this tenure, Dr. Cole applied his business acumen to assist in the startup of both Biovantage, a seed funder and incubator for medical technologies, and Zymetrix, a contract research organization. As Technology Innovation Director at Biovantage, Gerald assisted start-up companies in strategic business planning and project management. With Zymetrix, he leads the strategic planning, business development and marketing functions for the organization.
Anthony Blythe, MSc.
Anthony Blythe oversees the technical operations of Zymetrix. Anthony holds a BSc. Hons. in Biological Sciences and a MSc. in Biomedical Engineering. Anthony has spent several years in orthopedic research, work that included consultancy for Smith& Nephew, Surgicraft and Xiros to help develop new artificial ligaments. This was followed by neurophysiological research with the Miami Project to Cure Paralysis at University of Miami. In conducting and managing industry oriented research projects, Anthony honed his skills in project management. Anthony has managed Zymetrix' testing for eight years and has developed extensive experience in testing protocols for medical devices.
Elena Di Martino, Ph.D.
Elena Di Martino supports Zymetrix in the area of cardiovascular materials and device testing. Elena has extensive experience in cardiovascular mechanics having done her Master's on design of a polymeric heart valve and PhD on mechanics of aortic aneurysms. A highlight of her career during her postdoctoral fellowship in the Vascular Bioengineering Laboratory at the University of Pittsburgh was the publication of the first paper on fluid-structure interaction in the aorta. Elena currently holds an appointment in the Schulich School of Engineering at the University of Calgary, and is a member of the Libin Cardiovascular Institute of Alberta.
The specific areas where Elena lends her expertise to Zymetrix are in development of biaxial testing protocols for soft biological tissues: valve leaflets, aorta, skin; Finite Element Analysis of prosthetic heart valves, stents and endovascular grafts; and Computational Fluid Dynamics of valves, stents and grafts.

Steven Jones, PhD.
With a background in medical microbiology and bacteriology, Steve Jones manages the “non-mechanical” projects within Zymetrix. Steve has expanded Zymetrix service offerings to include in-vitro biocompatibility testing, characterization of tissue engineered medical products and characterization of cellular responses to medical devices. Steve also has extensive experience in medical device biofilms.
Steven Boyd, Ph.D., P.Eng.
Steve Boyd supports Zymetrix in the areas of microCT imaging and image analysis, 3D image reconstruction, and structural analysis using finite element methods. With an educational background in mechanical engineering, Steve did a postdoctoral fellowship at the Institute for Biomedical Engineering at the ETH & University Zürich where he worked with one of the pioneers in microCT imaging, Dr. Ralph Müller. Steve currently holds joint appointments in the Cumming School of Medicine, Schulich School of Engineering and Faculty of Kinesiology; and he is both the director of the McCaig Institute for Bone and Joint Health and the Bone Imaging Laboratory.
